Set
between Pozzuoli and Gaeta in the middle of the Domitian coastline,
Castelvolturno is the perfect starting point for an excursion to Ischia,
Procida and the Pontine islands, a volcanic archipelago with some
of the most stunning scenery in the Mediterranean. As your boat sails
through waters covered with sea fans and fields of posidonia or seagrass,
you will head toward the crown of white and pinks houses that circle
the port of Ponza. At Ventotene, you'll go past the typical square-shaped
reefs and the sheltered coves, and you'll be amazed at the little
harbour carved from tuff and the tanks used by the ancient Romans
to breed fish. Further south, you'll approach Ischia - rightfully
nicknamed the Green Island: chestnut forests, citrus groves and vineyards
cover the slopes down to the lovely beaches and to the crystal-clear
sea that is the home to a wide variety of fish. If you reserve your
trip for August 15th, when you get back to Castelvolturno you can
also participate in the wonderful Feast of the Assumption, also known
as the Sea Festival.
